6.25.25 From Nick Beaton, announcing candidacy for vacant position on Yerington City Council:
"This morning I went down to City Hall to turn in my application for the vacant City of Yerington Council position! I truly think I would be a great fit for this position, and, if you can, it would mean the world to me if you come speak in support at the City Council meeting at 10 a.m. on July 14.
I also know that the full board packet is not always fully available to the public, but I feel like everyone should get a chance to see my letter and why I'm putting my name in the running.
To the Yerington City Council members and city staff,
Iām writing to officially declare my intention for consideration for the vacant Yerington City Council seat. I believe that my experiences, proven dedication to the City of Yerington and overall skillset would be highly valuable to the council.
I am a Yerington native, born and raised here. I am a product of the Yerington school system, a Yerington upbringing, and the village behind me that was and is the incredible people of Yerington. But, I got out and explored the world. I graduated from high school in 2012, earned my bachelorās degree in 2016, and traveled the country through work while meeting and learning from incredible people from every walk of life.
In my near-decade away, Yerington was always home, but I truly cherish and value the lessons I learned, world view I gained, and skills and experiences I picked up as I graduated college and began my career.
I came back to Yerington in the spring of 2020 to begin my new adventure at my old home, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley. From there, I immediately got involved in my community, seeing that more people needed to chip in more in our community and valley. After settling in and through years of making connections and further honing the skills needed to be a steward of our community, I now serve as President of the Board for Yerington Theater for the Arts, President of the Yerington Main Street Committee, Umpire in Chief for Walker River Little League, a volleyball coach and video editing teacher at Yerington High School, the voice of YHS basketball, a photographer for our communityās people and an avid volunteer wherever needed.
Yerington has quickly become my home again, but itās a home that I know can be in a better place. Through my position on city council, I hope to achieve three things: 1. Find community-friendly ways to sustain our population, growing where we can in a responsible way. 2. Further encourage the community-first policing approach our local department has taken. 3. Ensure that our community is living up to its own standards from both an aesthetic and functional perspective.
We can and should encourage new industry to move to our area, making it easy for new businesses to set up shop and begin serving our community with shopping, resources and vital needs. We can and should work with and lobby with our county officials on all matters pertaining to potential responsible growth in our area. We can and should continue to have our local police department be a center of friendly faces that we can trust to protect and serve. We can and should steward our own, take care of each other, and hold each other accountable. And finally, we can and should do all we can to ensure Yerington is a beacon of community for current residents, new residents and friendly visitors.
I am not writing this letter of intent with the perception that I am the only answer to everything Iāve listed above, nor do I believe I am the only qualified candidate seeking this office. But, I do know that if given this opportunity, I will be the best representative for Yeringtonās citizens I can be, ensuring that Yerington can prosper in a responsible way that cherishes our values and puts community first.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration and the opportunity to throw my name in the hat for this esteemed position.
With respect and gratitude,
Nick Beaton"
