The Silver City Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse. It functioned as a school from 1868-1958. It opened during the Gold Rush when several thousand people lived in Silver City. After it closed in 1958 it became the firehouse and community center. The building burned in 2004 and was rebuilt over the next several years, using as much original material as could be salvaged from the fire. The Silver City Volunteer Fire Department got their own firehouse building and today the Schoolhouse functions once again as a community center, next to the beautiful Silver City Park. The building is used for community meetings, town events, parties, art shows, classes, community art projects, coffee houses, lectures, book readings and signings and much more. It also boasts a small but beautiful library.
The Silver City Preservation Society (SCPS), a 501c3 nonprofit was recently formed to manage the Schoolhouse building and develop community programs and art and culture programming. Proceeds from the bar and bake sale benefit the SCPS.
Silver City Arts is a committee of local residents who help produce arts and culture programming in Silver City. Silver City Arts volunteers graciously help with set up, clean up, run the bar and door and contribute magnificent baked goods. We could not do the series without them and are deeply grateful for their support.
Evangeline Presents and Yellow Truck Productions produce the series. They are father and daughter team, Evangeline Elston and Robert Elston. Evangeline was raised in Silver City and is a live music promoter and producer and a booking agent with Black Oak Artists for nationally touring acts. Robert Elston is an esteemed archeologist, songwriter and musician who came to Silver City in the mid 1960s with his wife Cashion and never left.

10.19.24 Watch Sergeant Matt Galvin and K9 Blady at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office 3nd Annual K9 Unit Challenge & Public K9 Obstacle Course!
Sergeant Galvin and K9 Blady work for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and will be one of more than a dozen agencies attending this year’s event at Fuji Park. Together they took “Top Dog” honors at last year’s event, finishing top three in several categories, and they hope to repeat their success this year.
This free, public K9 event is on October 19th from 9am to 4pm at Fuji Park in Carson City. Dozens of K9s from multiple agencies will compete in three primary events: patrol apprehension, odor detection, and agility. Apprehension and Agility events will be on full display at Fuji’s main arena, where there are bleachers for public viewing (and cheering).
In addition to the main event, the public is invited to participate in a separate agility course event with their own dog. Spaces for the public competition are limited, so please use the QR code below to sign up early. The public event portion will take place in the Fuji arena at 12:00, is $25 to register, and requires a signed liability waiver.
Whether you’re coming to compete or watch, there will be chances to meet the dogs, vendors, get some cool K9 swag, and enjoy good food. There will also be a SWAT demonstration at 11:00am, JJ Christy with K-BULL 98.1 will make a special appearance at 1:00pm, and a mounted unit demonstration at 3:00pm.
We welcome any and all to join us for this fun and exciting event! Come cheer on your favorite dog, enjoy some good food and a good show, and support your local K9s!
Check out this compilation from previous events and see the flyer below: https://youtu.be/LaZvdil5dlE
For additional information regarding CCSO K9, or if you’d like to know how you can donate to the K9 unit, please contact Sergeant Darin Riggin or visit the Sheriff’s Office main building during regular business hours.

And finally on December 21 Rita Hosking and Sean Feder grace the stage. In a wavy world where we often struggle to swim, singer-songwriter Rita Hosking paddles up and canoes us through black holes, sinks of dirty dishes, demo-derbies, and wildfires until we’re safe at shore. With award-winning music spanning 9 albums and 20 years of touring, this country-folk troubadour is a heavy hitter in the Northern California songwriting scene.
