Community Update from Yerington City Manager Bryant on November 6, 2026

Yerington NV – November 6, 2026

Good evening Yerington community!

Before I get into updates I’d like to say THANK YOU to our community for coming out and supporting the Trunk Or Treat and Trick Or Treat events. Holy moly there were a lot of people out! I can definitely see these events growing bigger in the future with the new formats we implemented this year.

Thank you to all community partners for helping make this a huge success, especially Public Works, YPD, LCSO, YHS, Tailgaters and the B&G Club.

In case you weren’t aware, YHS Soccer brought home 2 State Championships last weekend! One for the boys team and one for the girls team. Both teams had an undefeated season and brought home the first State Championship in their programs history. The Mayor and City Council were honored to participate in a school assembly to recognize these young athletes and their achievements. Mayor John Garry issued a Proclamation in honor of the teams on behalf of the city.

As a self proclaimed “nerd” (I do wear a lot of sweater vests) it makes me very happy to see your city government take an active role in local school activities. Engaging with our youth is just one more way we can encourage a sense of civic duty in the next generation. Thank you to YHS staff (especially Mrs. Bomba-Edgerton) for the invitation.

Happening this weekend is the St. Anne’s Christmas Bazaar, scheduled Saturday from 9a-3p at the Catholic Center on Virginia Street. I’m told a lot of vendors will be on site for this one so get there early to visit them all!

Also happening this weekend is the grand opening of the R & C mobile store. They will be in the empty lot west of McDonalds. The hours are 11:00 to 3:00. Hope to see you there.

I’m told Taco Bell will be opening it’s doors early next week. Possibly Monday evening. Keep an eye out for more info soon.

Next Wednesday is Veteran’s Day and City Offices will be closed. Tailgaters will be hosting their FREE Spaghetti Dinner for Veterans. I’ll attach their flyer for details but wanted to be sure to give them a public “Thank You” because honoring and respecting our veterans deserves recognition itself. I wish we could do more! Great job Vicki and team!

I posted a public notice a few days ago, stating we have 2 vacancies on our Yerington Planning Commission to fill. One seat was vacated by long time member Elmer Bull who left to focus on his duties with the school board. The other vacancy was created by Micah Triplett leaving to serve as Lyon County Commissioner. I’d like to thank both individuals for their service to our community and wish them the best in their other elected roles.

If you’re interested in serving on this board, drop off your letter of interest at City Hall, attention to our City Clerk, Stacy Stevenson. We are accepting letters until end of business day November 30, 2026. Be sure to include a resume or any relevant qualifications.

Speaking of Planning Commission, we had a Plan Com meeting last Wednesday. The topic was discussion of the River’s Edge development project. This proposal is a 62 single family home development proposed off of Bridge St. and Perumean Lane. The purpose of the meeting was to review the concept and offer feedback and suggestions to help steer their civil engineers in the right direction. We hope to see them take this feedback and come back in the near future with concrete plans for development.

We’ve had more interest in development this past year than in the past decade combined (I might be exaggerating, but maybe not). This means we have an opportunity to set the right standard now for future development to follow. It’s critical to set the standard correctly while we can.

We have two City Council meetings next week. One is Monday at 10:00 a.m. the other Thursday at 9:00 a.m.

The meeting Monday is our regular scheduled meeting, the meeting Thursday is a special meeting to canvass the general election results, as required by NRS. While results are not stamped as official just yet, it appears Nathan Bake and Nick Beaton will each receive a 4 year term on City Council, and Frank Pizzo will receive a 2 year term.

If you’d like to look at the agendas or their materials prior to the meetings you can always find it on our website here: https://yerington.net/AgendaCenter.

With that, I need to put down my phone and pay attention to my bride. Thank you if you made it this far. I know I can be long winded (long worded?) sometimes.

As always, if you have any questions or comments you can always reach me directly at jerryb@Yerington.net.

Respectfully,

Jerry Bryant

City Manager
