Lyon County NV – July 24, 2026
Message of the Week 07/24/2026
We are out working Night in the Country, and it is hot! The Boys and Girls Club staff and volunteers have been extremely accommodating to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office staff working the event. Working alongside the Deputies are the Dispatch Division, Search and Rescue Division, and VIPs, all with the common goal of making the event safe for all attendees and the surrounding community. Since we are working out in the heat, I figured it would be appropriate to share some summer safety tips!
To stay safe during high summer temperatures, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limit outdoor activity during peak midday hours, and seek air-conditioned spaces. You can review official guidelines through Ready.gov or the American Red Cross.
Staying Hydrated and Cool
• Drink water all day long, even if you do not feel thirsty.
• Avoid alcohol, sweet drinks, and caffeine.
• Take cool showers or baths to lower your body heat.
• Wear loose, light-colored, and lightweight clothes.
Protecting Yourself Outside
• Stay out of the sun and rest in the shade.
• Wear a wide hat and use sunscreen.
• Move hard work or exercise to the early morning or evening.
• Remember that hot pavement can burn a pet’s paws.
Important Warnings
• Never leave a child, adult, or pet alone in a closed car.
• Do not use only a fan when the room is hotter than 90°F.
• Check on older family members and neighbors twice a day.
Those traveling through the area, please note that a temporary speed reduction is in effect near the venue. This speed reduction will be lifted once the event has cleared out. Stay safe in the heat, and enjoy the summer activities throughout the region!

Respectfully,
Sheriff Brad Pope
