February 1, 2024 Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary

Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners met on Thursday, February 1, 2024 and appointed Michael Toombs in a 3-2 vote (Hendrix and Keller opposed) to fill a vacancy on the North Lyon County Fire Protection District (NLCFPD) Board of Fire Commissioners for the remainder of the term ending December 31, 2026. The NLCFPD Board previously deliberated on a number of motions to appoint a new Board member; however, the motions failed due to tie (2-2) votes. Pursuant to NRS 474.145, if the remaining Directors fail to appoint a new Director within 30 days after the vacancy occurs, the Board of County Commissioners shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy. Commissioners heard public comment from representatives of the Fire Board, employees of the District, neighboring jurisdictions, and members of the Fernley community before making the appointment.

Dayton Area Saturation Patrol Report

Commissioners Hendrix and Henderson participated in a ride-along with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) on Friday, January 26, 2024 during a saturation patrol in the Dayton patrol zone area. Sheriff Pope reported LCSO conducted 86 traffic stops, resulting in 16 traffic citations and several arrests for driving under the influence, warrants, drugs, and illegal driving. A full report with saturation patrol statistics is available in the 02/02/24 LCSO Message of the Week.

Public Hearing on Planning Items

Commissioners identified an APN needing correction on Agenda item 12.a. and voted to table discussions and possible approval of a Commercial Subdivision Tentative Map request from Stan Lucas to merge five existing parcels on the north side of Highway 50 to establish an approximately 125.13 acre commercial subdivision, creating the boundaries of the Traditions Commercial Center.

Further, Commissioners approved a request for a two-year extension, until February 1, 2026, to submit a final subdivision map, or the first in a series of final subdivision maps for the Estates at Sutro tentative subdivision, to create 96 single family residential lots on approximately 47.99 acres. The Tentative Subdivision Map was approved on February 6, 2020 and amended on October 19, 2023.

Other Board Action Items

Commissioners also took action on the following items:
