Commissioners Hear Presentation on Launch of New Waste Management Contract During 2/15/24 Meeting

Yerington, Nevada – On Thursday, February 15, 2024, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners heard a presentation from Waste Management on the new collection contract that begins March 1st. Waste Management began sending welcome mailings to service recipients in early February which included the new Lyon County Transfer Station vouchers and new service rate information. Waste Management provided an update that the agency is still seeking a location for the Silver Springs transfer station that is convenient for customers and aligns with the Lyon County Master Plan.

In addition, Waste Management provided information on the agency’s trash recovery plan during inclement weather. If trash pickup is disrupted due to inclement weather, trash recovery will continue on the next service day in order to maintain service routing for all customers. Waste Management will notify the County of extraordinary circumstances and alerts will be posted on WM.com, in the MyWM app, and residents can opt in for call, text, and email notifications. Further, local Waste Management customer service centers will provide updates and additional information.

The full presentation is included in the February 15, 2024 Board of County Commissioners Agenda Packet on the Lyon County website.
