Laura Hardesty Butcher is the CEO of VORRA Valley Off Road Racing Association and co-creator of Farmy’s Off Road Park with her husband, BJ Butcher. Farmy’s is dedicated to the memory of Michael Hardesty, also known as Farm Boy or Farmy. Mike was Laura’s brother and longtime friend of Laura’s husband BJ. He was a well-known and loved member of the Mason Valley community and of the Off-Road Racing community.
At the dedication ceremony of Farmy’s Off Road Park on April 14, 2023 with representatives from the City of Yerington, Laura stated: “Throughout Mike’s years in off-road, he enjoyed racing quads, motorcycles, & class 7 trucks in multiple series.
“We are looking forward to many years of fun, with family & friends at Farmy’s Off-Road Park.”
BJ Butcher reported that Farmy’s Off-Road Park is a multi-use facility for people to have fun, recreate and socialize with other off-road enthusiasts while observing safety precautions.
Fast forward to September 28, 2026 as Laura Hardesty Butcher provides a promising update: “Farmy’s Off-Road Park has always been about creating something positive and lasting for Yerington and the surrounding communities. What began as an idea to provide a safe, responsible place for off-road recreation is steadily becoming a destination that can bring families together, support local businesses, attract events and visitors, and showcase everything this area has to offer.
“This presentation is really an opportunity to show the progress that has been made as we close out our first round of grant funding through Nevada’s Off-Highway Vehicles Program. That support has helped us move important planning, safety and development work forward, and we’re incredibly grateful for the investment in this project. We’re also thankful for the support of the City of Yerington, our board, volunteers and community partners, including NextEra Energy, who have helped make individual pieces of the project possible.
“We’ve made tremendous progress, but we’re still building. Our goal is to continue developing Farmy’s thoughtfully and responsibly so that it becomes an asset the community can be proud of for generations to come. There is something really special about watching a community rally around an idea and help turn it into something real, and I’m incredibly hopeful about what Farmy’s can become.”
