Yerington NV – October 14, 2026
YERINGTON, NV – For nearly two decades, the Rotary Club of Yerington has been making a lasting difference in the lives of local elementary school students through its annual Dictionary Project, a program dedicated to promoting literacy, education, and a lifelong love of learning.
Each year, the Rotary Club distributes approximately 80 to 120 dictionaries to third-grade students in Yerington schools. Unlike classroom textbooks that must be returned, these dictionaries are gifts for the students to keep, providing them with a valuable educational resource they can use for years to come.
The project is overseen by longtime Rotary Club members Bunny and Jim Snyder, whose dedication has helped make this program a cherished tradition in the Yerington community.
Bunny Snyder, a retired educator, has been particularly instrumental in the program’s continued success. Drawing upon her years of experience in education and her passion for helping young people succeed, Bunny has worked tirelessly to ensure that generations of local third graders receive their very own dictionaries.
For many students, the excitement goes far beyond simply receiving a book. Having a dictionary they can call their own creates a sense of pride and ownership in their education. Students are encouraged to explore new words, improve their spelling, expand their vocabulary, and discover the joy of learning independently.
The Dictionary Project reflects one of Rotary International’s fundamental commitments: supporting education and literacy while investing in the future of local communities. Through this simple yet meaningful gesture, the Rotary Club of Yerington continues to demonstrate that even small acts of generosity can have a lasting impact.
With nearly 20 years of participation and thousands of dictionaries placed into the hands of local children, the program stands as a testament to the dedication of Bunny and Jim Snyder and the ongoing generosity of Yerington’s Rotary members.
The Rotary Club of Yerington is proud to continue this tradition, one dictionary, one student, and one word at a time.
