Yerington NV – Friday, May 8, 2026
Happy Friday Yerington community!
To start off today I’d like to say good luck to all of our Yerington High School athletes who are representing us at their zone/regional tournaments this weekend.
Our Baseball, Softball and Track & Field teams are all competing as I write this. Hopefully we have some great news to share very soon about how they do this weekend!
Happening tomorrow in Yerington is the annual Lyon County Museum Open House and Spaghetti Feed! They are open+ from 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Every time I step foot into our local museum I come away with an even greater appreciation for our valley and our history. No matter how much you think you know, you’ll learn something new every visit!

We had an amazing thunderstorm this week. I hope you were all able to enjoy the free light show and down pour that it provided. I’d like to say thank you to the NV Energy workers who kept everybody connected. I know these storms can wreak havoc on utilities, and the great people at NV Energy work hard to keep you going, in all weather.
With that down pour and badly needed rain that came, we can all expect weeds to start popping up pretty quickly. If you haven’t already, this is a great time to try and get in front of it so that it doesn’t turn into a huge project later.
Our Main Yerington NV Main Street Committee, Walker Basin Conservancy, Yerington Chamber of Commerce and local artists were on hand this past Monday to unveil the new 3-D mural on the side of the Chamber of Commerce building. What a beautiful piece of work with so many local elements to it! If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to go check it out. Also, seeing it at night with the lights on, takes it to a whole new level! Great job to all involved in the project.

Speaking of Main Street – I’d like to ask that when placing yard sale signs in the area, please do not attach them to the decorative poles along the Main Street area. To keep our Main Street area looking sharp it can be burdensome to remove the residue and tape that are often used. Also, after your yard sales are complete, please make an effort to go through and pick up your signs as well. It would be greatly appreciated!
This coming Monday, May 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. is our next regularly scheduled City Council Meeting. An item of note a presentation by BLM. They’re stopping by to keep us updated on activity they have going on. Also on the agenda are items that were recently discussed by our Administrative Committees, such as adoption of a Main Street Overlay District and specific zoning regulations for the Main Street area, consideration of moving our quarterly business license and liquor license schedules to an annual schedule and discussion regarding how this impacts the fees for these as well as an item for our J-Stand fees. As always, full agendas and supporting documents can be found on our website at www.yerington.net . Zoom is an option if you are unable to attend in person.
Finally, on behalf of the City of Yerington, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible women who shape our community. Mother’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it is an opportunity to honor the foundation of our families and the heart of our town.

From the mothers raising the next generation of Yerington citizens to the grandmothers and mother-figures who offer wisdom and guidance, your influence is seen in every corner of our city. Your resilience, compassion, and tireless dedication do not go unnoticed.
We encourage everyone in our community to take a moment this Sunday to express gratitude—whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or a shared meal—to the women who have given us so much.
Have a great weekend everyone, and if you have specific questions for me, you can always reach me at jerryb@yerington.net.
