Jeff Page, Lyon County Manager submitted the following press release: “Residing in Recreational Vehicles”
Lyon County is investigating a number of code enforcement complaints alleging that people are living in recreational vehicles on private property or County easements/right of way.
Lyon County does authorize recreational vehicles to be used as a residence under the following circumstances:
The Owner Builder exemption does allow property owners living on the property the opportunity to draw and build, BUT, the design requirements are the same for an owner builder/design professional. They all follow the 2020 Blue Book Standards and locally adopted Codes. https://nvbpels.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/2020-BLUE-BOOK.pdf
Lyon County does not regulate the use of recreational vehicles on public lands (BLM, USFS, State Parks, NDOW, BIA, BOR, Etc.) Lyon County is addressing the current investigations by providing people that are residing illegally in a recreational vehicle with a 30 notice to cease. If the occupants do not cease residing in the recreational vehicles the case may be forwarded to the District Attorney for prosecution.
Lyon County understands that housing and homelessness is an issue and strongly encourages people having difficulty getting appropriate housing to contact our Human Services Department at (775) 577-5009.
