Yerington NV – May 25, 2026
Happy Memorial Day from all of us at the City of Yerington.
Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten. May we always live in a way that honors their legacy.

No matter how you celebrate today, please take a moment to remember those who gave all.
When city business resumes tomorrow (Tuesday, May 26), we’ll start off with a City Council meeting at 10:00 a.m. Agendas and supporting materials can be found on our website at www.yerington.net.
Of topic on the agenda is possible approval of our annual budget, as well as items regarding the creation of a Main Street Overlay District, revisions to our Business License program (from quarterly to annual and adjusting the fees), revisions to our liquor license program (from quarterly to annual and adjusting the fees) as well as adjusting the J-Stand fee structure. To remain compliant with open meeting laws, I won’t go into detail about agenda items prior to the meeting, but in summary, I’ll state our budget is going to be tight. Our revenues are not keeping up with expenses/inflation and as such we must find ways to both tighten expenses and seek responsible revenues.
We will also take a moment to recognize the Yerington NV Main Street Committee for achieving National recognition and accreditation. Since the creation of this program two-plus years ago, it has really made an impact. This impact goes much deeper than the aesthetics, so please attend if you’d like to learn more.
In the coming weeks, be on the lookout for upcoming committee meetings including Public Works, Public Safety and Room Tax boards. All will have meetings in June to discuss items relative to their purview. Public Works will be assessing some of our water and sewer rates, amongst other items. Public Safety will be reviewing some ordinances and how we enforce them.
The Room Tax board will meet June 5, so remember to get your grant applications in to City Hall by May 29 if you’re submitting for this round of grant awards. The applications are on our website here: www.yerington.net/DocumentCenter/View/912/Room-Tax-June-2026.
Now that weather has stabilized (for now?) you’ll see Public Works crews filling pot holes this week. We keep a list of areas we know are in need of repair, but if you have a spot you’d like to be sure is on our list, please email it to our Public Works Director, Paul Shapiro, at pauls@yerington.net.
Work to renovate the Tennis Court should begin in early July. This is made possible in partnership with our local Pizen Switch Pickleball Club, as well as the Walker River Basin Communities Foundation and volunteers like Scott Draper.
Partnerships like this are helping us achieve progress, where funds would otherwise not allow. Thank you to all of you for your contributions to improving our community. In particular, I’d like to thank Scott Draper for also playing a critical role in the development of our Pickleball Courts. I see them used almost daily and this would have never happened without Scott volunteering his time to the project.

I mentioned the Walker River Basin Communities Foundation just a moment ago, and with that I’d like to remind you all that their annual dinner is coming up on June 6, 2026 at the Boys & Girls Club in Yerington. This is a wonderful organization to support and 100% of the proceeds benefit Mason Valley and Smith Valley. I have been fortunate to partner with them several times over the years for projects that improve Yerington, and they are incredible to work with. If you are able, please attend their dinner, or find ways to contribute to their amazing program.

Many of you know that I’m actively involved in our Little League program, Walker River Little League. While I try not to ever blend my job here and my volunteering with that program, I would like to say thank you to all of the wonderful families, players, sponsors and volunteers who make that program possible. It truly would not be possible without all of you. I am grateful to all of you for what we achieve for our youth.
We just finished games for our 2026 regular season and have our End of Season dinner this coming Thursday at the Fairgrounds.
This year we had 502 players, 44 teams and played just under 340 games in a span of roughly 8 weeks.

With that, I’ll leave you to your Memorial Day weekend.
