The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the highly anticipated 2026 Citizens Academy. The 2026 LCSO Citizens Academy will commence on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and continue through Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Classes will be held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., starting at the Main Sheriff’s Office, 911 Harvey Way, Yerington, NV 89447. The remainder of the academy will be held at the Silver Springs Senior Center located at 2945 Fort Churchill Rd. Silver Springs, NV 89429.
Rules and Requirements:
1. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.
2. A Criminal History check will be completed on each participant.
3. Participants are required to wear appropriate business attire (business casual).
4. Participants are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
Failure to comply may lead to dismissal.
1. Participants are not permitted to carry weapons at the Citizens Academy.
2. Class size is limited to 25 participants, ensuring an engaging learning experience for all. Priority consideration will be given to persons living within Lyon County. Early submission is highly recommended.
3. Participants are highly encouraged to attend all classes.

This program provides an opportunity for community members to gain insight and firsthand experience into the operations and responsibilities of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. The Citizens Academy offers an opportunity for community members to engage with LCSO law enforcement professionals; learn about their day-to-day operations; and foster a stronger bond between LCSO and the community it serves.
Participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge of law enforcement procedures, explore the Sheriff’s Office divisions, and engage in interactive discussions and activities. LCSO encourages all interested individuals to submit their applications at their earliest convenience. Don’t miss out on this chance to gain firsthand knowledge and insight into the world of law enforcement.
