“I am Pete Spinuzzi, candidate for Walker River Justice of the Peace.
The Walker River Justice Court is located in Yerington at the justice complex. Walker River Justice Court encompasses Silver Springs, Yerington, Mason Valley and Smith Valley.
A few of the duties of the Justice Court include but are certainly not limited to: Probable Cause hearings, Bail hearings, Preliminary hearings, issuance of protective orders, traffic violations, small claims court and again much more.
Born in Los Angeles California in 1957, I left effectively California in 1980 when I joined the Marine Corps. Upon returning from the Persian Gulf in 1991, then as a Staff Sergeant, I was stationed at the Mountain Warfare Training Center near Bridgeport California. I bought a house in the Topaz Ranch Estates. In 1993, the Marine Corps wanted to send me back to Camp Pendleton. Not wanting to go back to California I took an early out. My new career then began with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 and I moved to Yerington.
Over the next twenty eight and a half years I served with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in numerous positions and attended many career enhancing schools enabling me to better serve the citizens of Lyon County. I am a father of five, grandfather of 11, great grandfather of 2 and live in Yerington on a small farm with his wife Theresa.
My Marine Corps career included travels or deployments to: Okinawa, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Spain, and Germany. Assignments and Schools include: 1980 Marine Corps Recruit Depot 1981, Camp Lejeune Schools Battalion, 1981-1982 Marine Wing Support Squadron El Toro, CA, 1982-1983 Attached to Marine Air Support Squadron 2 Okinawa, 1983 Yechon Korea where I served as the Sergeant of the Guard during the Shoot down of Korean Airline 007. 1984 Dam Neck VA, Basic Intelligence schools then attached to Third Marine Aircraft Wing Air Combat Intelligence division. 1985 Little Creek VA, for Advanced Intelligence Analyst School then assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 16, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 166, newly commissioned and served as the first Intelligence Chief for that squadron. 1985 First Marine Amphibious Force Tactical Exercise Control Group. 1986 awarded for having the highest rated intelligence office in the First Marine Amphibious Force. 1986 Coronado, Ca. Advanced Amphibious Intelligence School 1987 Returned to HMM-166 as Intelligence Chief and served as such for West Pack aboard the USS Tarawa. 1989 Deployed with HMM-166 as Intelligence during West Pac aboard USS Peleliu. Returned to Marine Corps Air Station Tustin serving with HMM-166 until August of 1990 when I was attached to HMM-161 as part of Contingency Air Group 70 to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield. August 1990 – Spring 1991. Served as the Intelligence Chief For MAG-70 during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Later in 1991 to 1993 I was assigned to Mountain Warfare Training Center Bridgeport, Ca. Trained as an instructor for winter and summer survival. Further worked in academics, rewriting lesson plans for various training disciplines. Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant in 1993.
My Law Enforcement Career included: Sworn in as a Lyon County Deputy on Thanksgiving Day 1994. 1994 to 1996 Jail Deputy 1996 Attended the Nevada POST Academy 1996 to 2000 Patrol Deputy Interview, Interrogations, and Statement Analysis During that time, assigned to work with the U.S. Secret Service developing emergency action plan for the visit by former president Jimmy Carter. 2000 Certified by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a Clandestine Lab Technician. 2000 to 2003 Narcotics Officer when I returned to the Patrol Division I was chosen as One of only Two Officers from the State of Nevada to attend the Drug Enforcement Agency Tactical Academy in 2003. 2003 – 2008 worked patrol, primarily in the Walker River area (Smith Valley, Yerington/Mason Valley area, Silver Springs). Detective Sergeant 2008 to 2010, Trained and served as Crisis Negotiator. SWAT Sniper concurrent with Detective Patrol Sergeant, Jail Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Administrative Captain. I retired from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on January 03, 2023.
