Highway Between Reno and Las Vegas: Closed at Mile Marker 13 for Hazmat Cleanup North of Indian Springs

 Crash at US95 and mile marker 13 (Between Mercury and SR 160) in Nye County, Nevada

9/17/2024 Update @ 6:45pm U.S. 95 Reopens in Nye County after Semi-Truck CrashNye County, Nev. – U.S. 95 is now open in both directions near mile marker 13, between Mercury and State Route 160 (SR160), following a crash involving two semi-trucks. The incident occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday, September 17 and required a temporary closure of the highway.

NDOT, in coordination with the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol, local fire departments, a specialized hazmat unit, and other local agencies worked swiftly to clear the crash site and ensure public safety.

We thank the public for their patience during the closure and remind all drivers to stay alert while traveling through the area.

US95 remains closed in both directions between Mercury and SR160 in Nye County due to a crash involving two semi-trucks – one semi was transporting lithium batteries and caught fire – the fire has been extinguished.  
A hazmat crew is on-scene working to clear the area. No estimated time yet to reopen US95 –we will continue to provide updates on social media X, Facebook and nvroads.com. 
Southbound traffic is being diverted to SR160 to Pahrump. Northbound traffic is being turned around at Indian Springs.
Please avoid the area.
At approximately midnight, the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division responded to a crash the location of US95 and mile marker 13 (between Mercury and SR 160) in Nye County, Nevada. Preliminary information:
Two semi-trucks traveling on the US95, one northbound and one southbound, were involved in a side swipe / oncoming crash.

The cause of the crash has not been determined at this time.

One semi was carrying lumber, the second semi was carrying lithium batteries. The semi carrying lithium batteries caught on fire. The fire has since been extinguished.

 

Both drivers sustained minor injuries.

A hazmat unit is enroute to the scene. Fire personnel, Nevada State Police Highway Patrol, Nevada Department of Transportation and local authorities will continue to secure the area.

The US95 will remain closed in the area throughout the clean-up process. The estimated time has not been determined – updates will be forthcoming as they are received.

Please avoid the area and expect delays. Southbound traffic is being diverted to SR160 to Pahrump. Northbound traffic is being turned around at Indian Springs location.
