Daniel Eugene DelPorto ~ June 20,1943 to January 21, 2024 ~ “Family was his whole world”

***UPDATE***From Julie Del Porto Myers: “We will be celebrating the life of Dan DelPorto on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Pioneer Crossing Convention Center between 12-6. There will be plenty of food and drinks. We would love for you to join us. If you want to make a donation in Dan’s memory, please send it to the Lyon County Museum.”

Daniel Eugene DelPorto was born to Rose Bachman and Deni (Dan) DelPorto in Hawthorne, Nevada on June 20, 1943. He left this world unexpectedly at his home on January 21, 2024.

Dan lived in Hawthorne until 1956 when the family moved to Yerington, Nevada. He attended and graduated from Yerington High School in 1961. After graduating he went to Salinas, California and received a degree from Hartnel College.

Upon returning to Yerington, he met and fell in love with Cherryl Compston. They were married on March 30, 1968 and in 1972 they welcomed their first daughter Gina. A few years later in 1976 their second daughter Julie arrived.

Dan worked for the Lyon County Road Department until 2003 when he retired after 30 years. Upon retirement he spent his time watching his grandchildren participate in sports, 4H and FFA. No matter what they were involved in, Dan was there being their biggest fan. Dan’s family was his whole world.

Dan’s other passion was the history of Mason Valley and he knew it like the back of his hand. He enjoyed taking people for rides and sharing his vast knowledge of the history and people of this valley. With Dan’s passing, we lost an encyclopedia of the Mason Valley.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Rose DelPorto. In-laws Frank and Virgina Compston and his sister Ellen Waggoner.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Cherryl DelPorto. Daughters Gina (Henry) Moreda of Yerington. Julie (JJ) Myers of Lovelock. Grandchildren Elizabeth Moreda, Jamie Moreda, Dalley Myers and Wyatt Myers. Sister Marilyn (Dave) Chisholm of Washington. Brothers Frank DelPorto of Yerington, Tom (Sarah) DelPorto of Colorado and John (Christine) DelPorto of Utah along with numerous nieces and nephews.

When you met Dan, you made a friend for life. He will be missed by all who knew him and those who appreciated his incredible sharing ability on Facebook.

Per his request there will be no funeral service, but we will have a celebration of his life at a later date.
