Lucy (Snyder) Rechel and her family began making preparations a few years ago to move the iconic and Historic Snyder Home from it’s original location on West Bridge Street in Yerington, Nevada to it’s new home in the south end of Mason Valley near Wilson Canyon. Lucy’s father, (the late) Ed Snyder, grew up in this home before he met his wife, Teresa, who still lives on their ranch where they raised a large family near the Snyder Bridge.
While Lucy plans to build a replica home in it’s original place, the Historic Snyder Home has been relocated to its new foundation with its new family, the Hardestys, who plan to lovingly restore the home.
Lucy’s sister, Susan Snyder Yates, wrote: “Can’t believe it finally happened! My dad and aunt (Yvonne Snyder) were born in that house. I hope it continues to be the center of love and cherished memories for a few more generations. Looks like it weathered the move!”
From Yerington resident, Tom Booth: “I remember delivering groceries to Virginia Snyder’s home when I worked at the Thrifty Market delivering, boxing and stocking groceries during my High School years. She was a kind and gracious lady. She was also an accomplished artist. I believe she was also an avid bridge player. What memories the moving of her house has evoked!”
