James Loren Mattice: March 29,1947 – January 21, 2020 “Jim was a proud and loving husband and father”

James Loren Mattice, 72, of Yerington, Nevada, passed away on January 21, 2020.  He was 72.  Jim’s passing was due to complications from a lengthy battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Jim was born in Elko, Nevada to Eloise Mattice. He grew up with 3 siblings Michael, Robbin, and David. As a teen, he loved spending his summers on the family ranch in Lamoille, Nevada. As he got older, he enlisted in the Marines and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Jim returned home and became a building contractor. A passion that lasted for nearly 50 years.

When he was 23 he began pursuing Mary Connolly while he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. They fell in love after Jim, who was on the USMC rodeo team, returned to Yerington to ride in the rodeo. Despite being bucked off, he still won the heart of the love of his life. They were married within a year and started a family which included two boys, Duane and John. As a family they loved outdoor activities including camping, hunting, riding horses, and boating. Jim was a proud and loving husband and father.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary; sons and daughter-in-laws Duane & Crystal Mattice and John & Dena Mattice; and grandchildren Ian, Jake, Lindsay, and Josie Mattice. Jim was preceded in passing by his mother Eloise, sister Robbin, and brothers Michael and David.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Valley View Cemetery on September 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception at the home of John and Dena Mattice following the service. His family welcomes all who would like to attend the reception.
