Ted Erlwein at the Great Cycle Challenge

Yeringtonite Ted Erlwein Cycles Mason Valley for Children’s Cancer Research During September 2026

Yerington NV – September 1, 2026

Local bike rider Ted Erlwein is participating in the Great Cycle Challenge for the 9th year in a row. The Great Cycle Challenge, an event put on by Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF), is a month long challenge where bike riders across the country pledge to ride a certain number of miles and then get donations from sponsors. The challenge is actually an international challenge – in Canada in August, the US in September and Australia in October.

Ted has committed to ride 500 cumulative miles during September 2026 and has set his fundraising goal at $10,000. During the 9 years of riding for the challenge, he has raised an impressive $73,604.

CCRF states that over 15,700 children are diagnosed with cancer each year and sadly 38 children die each week. Couple that with the fact that only about 4% of research dollars are actually allocated to those specific types of cancer affecting children. So CCRF allocates the money to studies and research on those types of cancer. In the 11 years of being in existence, GCC riders across all 50 states have ridden a total of 36,122,668 miles and raised $79,792,070 in support of research to develop better treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Any rider of any skill level can join and any type of riding is accepted – road, mountain, spin, stationary, trike, e-bike – some riders actually ride unicycles or pennywhistles (the old fashioned bikes with the big front tires.
