The Lyon County Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, drew significant public interest, with more than 100 people filling the meeting room and hallway overflow area. An additional 112 people attended remotely via Zoom.
The primary agenda item was a public hearing on a request from Copia Power Devco, LLC, seeking approval of a zone change to Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the proposed Monarch Data Center.
Public comments were made for several hours, during which dozens of people spoke. Based on those who provided public testimony, approximately 90% spoke in opposition, while approximately 10% spoke in support.
Following public comment and commission discussion, the Lyon County Planning Commission voted 4-3 to recommend approval of the zone change to the Lyon County Board of Commissioners for the proposed Monarch Data Center.

- Yes: Andrew Merritt, Jim Davis, Mark Jones, Shannon Ceresola
- No: Wendy Loomis, Michael Irvin, Audrey Allan
