Yerington NV – July 9, 2026
On a warm summer evening in Mason Valley, the Yerington Paiute Tribe and the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club hosted a public town hall to discuss the proposed Monarch Data Center, a project planned for approximately 505 acres near Penrose Lane in an area surrounded by agricultural and residential properties.
Jefferson Emm of the Yerington Paiute Tribe welcomed attendees and introduced Olivia Tanager, Director of the Sierra Club’s Toiyabe Chapter.
Tanager presented an informational slideshow outlining the proposed project, the county planning process, and the Sierra Club’s concerns regarding the development. Following the presentation, attendees participated in a question-and-answer session, with discussion covering topics including land use compatibility, water resources, emergency services, infrastructure, and potential environmental impacts.
According to organizers, more than 60 community members attended the meeting.

Hospitality was also provided by members of the Yerington Paiute Tribe, who prepared a variety of sandwiches, wraps, fresh fruit, salads, and bottled water for those in attendance.

The meeting comes just days before the Lyon County Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the proposed Planned Unit Development (PUD) and related zoning request for the Monarch Data Center. The commission’s recommendation will then be forwarded to the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners for final consideration.
