Yerington NV – July 10, 2026
What a wonderful 4th of July celebration we had in Yerington last Saturday!
Capped off by a wonder fireworks display. I’d like to thank the Mason Valley Fireworks Committee for all of their VOLUNTEER work in coming together to put on a great show, year after year.

I’d also like to thank the Yerington Chamber of Commerce and Yerington Lions Club for putting on great events both on Main Street and at Mountain View Park. These are wonderful events full of small town charm that we all appreciate!
Attached is a wonderful photo from Jim Benterou, capturing the beauty of the firework display we had.

I’d also like to thank VFW Post 8084 (Yerington) for kicking off the day with a flag ceremony right here at City Hall. This was the first year we have kicked off 4th of July festivities with a flag ceremony at City Hall, and I was pleased with the turnout and I hope this tradition continues and grows.

Road work from City staff continues with potholing in the areas on the east end of town. We have enough roads in need to keep us busy all summer, so we are doing our best to catch up with many repairs. Speaking of roads, I was able to take part in workshops this week with NDOT and other neighboring agencies in which we could advocate for needs in our areas. Having a seat at workshops like this are critical to getting the needs of our local community on the radar for future planning.
Many of the needs advocated for in our area include passing lanes, stop lights in critical areas, turning lanes, and a desire to direct large object transfers away from some of our areas. Based on previous meetings with NDOT, some of these needs mentioned are already moving through various stages of consideration and assessment. While improvements from any agency, including your own City, are never as quick as any of us would like, I’m happy to report that we are actively engaged with one another and working towards solutions.

If you’re on City water, you likely received the annual Consumer Confidence Letter this past week. This letter is sent out EVERY year about this time and details the quality of the water that the City of Yerington provides. The letter is the result of sampling conducted throughout the year, and all samples are tested by an independent third party who reports to NDEP (Nevada Department of Environmental Protection). NDEP then prepares the letter information and requires that the City of Yerington send it out to our users. We also have additional copies of the letter available at City Hall and on our website here: https://www.yerington.net/DocumentCenter/View/918/2025-Yerington-Consumer-Confidence-Letter–NV0000255-4

The following is an excerpt from the letter: “Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).”
“We treat your water to remove several contaminants and we add disinfectant to protect you against microbial contaminants. The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires states to develop a Source Water Assessment (SWA) for each public water supply that treats and distributes raw source water in order to identify potential contamination sources. The state has completed an assessment of our source water. For results of the source water assessment, please contact us.”
The other item of note included with the letter that went out was the request to help us understand how many households in our community are still utilizing lead pipes to deliver their drinking water. You’ll see a page in the packet with a QR code on it and if you could help scan that and take part in the lead pipe survey this would help us understand how many homes are still on lead pipes. This is good to know because lead pipes do pose more threats to health, especially for individuals who are pregnant or infants.
If you’d like any more specific information on these items please contact our Public Works Director, Paul Shapiro at pauls@yerington.net.
This coming Monday is our next regular City Council meeting at 10:00 a.m. As always, you can find the agenda and supporting materials here: https://www.yerington.net/AgendaCenter
I’ve mentioned before, that I can’t go into detail on items that are on an agenda prior to the meeting, but I’m happy to note that we have a pretty informative meeting lined up, including a presentation by Hudbay Minerals on their project, interest in movement to declare the onion as the State Vegetable of Nevada, a request to extend use of a water hydrant for 12 months, and a presentation of the Economic Development portion of our 2025 Master Plan. Again, I’m not able to go into specific details here, but I’d like to ensure the public is aware of the public discussions happening Monday.
With that, I’ll leave you to your Friday night. I have some Little League games to catch up on. (Go Walker River!)

Sincerely,
Jerry Bryant
