Lyon County NV – June 19, 2026
Message of the Week 06/19/2026
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force has made several arrests in recent months as part of our ongoing commitment to protecting our communities. In accordance with our mission statement, the Sheriff’s Office has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to sex offender registration compliance, including registration deadlines, residence reporting requirements, and vehicle registration requirements.
Mission Statement:
“The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is committed to aggressively and professionally enforcing the law and protecting our communities against those who choose a life of crime over our quality of life.”
What does zero tolerance mean? It means exactly that: no grace periods, no excuses, and no exceptions. Registered sex offenders are required by law to keep their information current and accurate. Those who fail to comply with these requirements will be arrested and booked into jail.
There are no laws regulating where a sex offender can reside, or who they can reside with. The only condition of residence is placed on a paroled sex offender, if it is a condition of their parole.
Currently, there are approximately 256 registered sex offenders in Lyon County:
Yerington – 31
Wellington / Smith Valley – 7
Dayton – 49
Moundhouse – 4
Silver Springs – 77
Stagecoach – 10
Silver City – 1
Fernley – 77
Nevada classifies registered sex offenders into three tiers under NRS Chapter 179D. Since Nevada adopted the federal Adam Walsh Act standards, offenders are classified primarily based on the offense of conviction rather than a subjective risk assessment.
Tier I-Least serious qualifying sex offenses, are registered for 15 years, must register once per year.
Tier II-More serious offenses, often involving minors, are registered for 25 years, must register every 180 days.
Tier III– Most serious offenses, including violent sex crimes and certain crimes against children, are registered for their lifetime, must register every 90 days.
The Sheriff’s App utilizes offender watch to show where current sex offenders reside, that information is also available online at, https://www.offenderwatch.com/network/nevada.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring that all registered sexual offenders residing in or visiting Lyon County comply with Nevada’s registration requirements. Deputies proactively investigate reports of non-compliance and take appropriate enforcement action to protect the community. The mission of the Sex Offender Task Force is to ensure full compliance among registered sexual offenders within Lyon County. Individuals who fail to meet their legal obligations will be held accountable.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office encourages community members to report concerns or suspicious activity related to sex offender compliance. To report information, please contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force at: (775) 463-6600 or SOTF@lyon-county.org

Respectfully,
Sheriff Brad Pope
