On April 23, 2026, Mark Krueger, candidate for Lyon County District Attorney wrote:

“Denim Day began after a shocking Italian court ruling suggesting a victim’s clothing could imply consent. It was wrong then, and it’s wrong now. What someone wears is never an excuse for sexual assault.

“Join me on April 29 in recognizing Denim Day and standing in solidarity with survivors. Wear denim to show your support and to send a clear message: We believe victims, and we will fight for justice.

“As an attorney with over 25 years of experience and over 40 criminal jury trials, I’ve taken on the toughest cases, secured justice for victims, and held offenders accountable, including securing the longest sentence in Lyon County history, 375 years to life.

“During my six years as Lyon County’s Chief Deputy District Attorney, I prosecuted some of the most serious crimes, including sexual assault and crimes against children. I’ve worked directly with victims, fought to make sure their voices were heard in court, and trained law enforcement officers on how to properly investigate these cases, because doing it right matters.

“I have spent my career standing up for victims and holding those who commit crimes accountable. My opponent has spent his career defending those accused of those same crimes. That difference matters.

“Denim Day is a reminder that supporting victims requires more than words, it requires action, experience, and a commitment to justice.

“As your next District Attorney, I will continue to stand with victims, demand accountability, and work every day to keep Lyon County safe.”

Tabitha Perkins: Have you helped survivors by giving them resources such as Victims of Crime, Vinelink, etc? Can you tell me what kind of resources are available to victims of crime?

Mark Krueger: Great question. Yes. Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with victims to ensure they are supported and connected to available resources.

In Nevada, victims can access the Nevada Victims of Crime Program, which helps cover expenses like medical care, counseling, and lost wages. They can also use Nevada S.A.V.E. (Custody Notifications for Survivors, Advocates, Victims, and Enforcement), which replaced VINELink in 2025, to receive 24-hour updates on an offender’s custody status.

But in rural communities like Lyon County, resources are often limited, and too many victims are left to navigate the system on their own.

That’s why one of my top priorities as District Attorney will be creating a dedicated Victim-Witness Advocate position. This role will give victims a single point of contact to guide them through the court process, connect them with resources, and provide real support when they need it most. It will also expand outreach and training in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office.

Victims deserve more than just a case number, they deserve support, guidance, and a voice. As your District Attorney, victims will always be a priority.

Tabitha Perkins: What would it take for Nevada to adopt Idaho’s law for sexual assault under the age of 12? We could use more stringent laws protecting children. We’ve seen some crazy cases one County over, and defendants are being released on an OR (own recognizance). Will you fight against an OR to protect the victims and public? How does bail reform play a role in pedophiles being released on an OR, because they don’t have the financial means to post bail?

Mark Krueger: On strengthening protections for children: Any change like adopting a law similar to Idaho’s would have to go through the Nevada Legislature. As someone who recently played a key role in a settlement with Roblox involving child safety issues, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to stay ahead of threats to kids. I will advocate for stronger protections where needed and work with lawmakers to make that happen.

On OR releases: These decisions should always come down to risk. For violent offenses or crimes involving children, I will argue strongly against OR release when a defendant poses a danger to the victim or the public. Protecting victims and preventing further harm has to come first.

On bail reform: Bail should never be about whether someone has money, it should be about whether they are a risk to the public. If someone is dangerous, they should not simply be released. As District Attorney, I will make sure those risks are clearly presented to the court and strongly advocate for decisions that keep our community safe.

My focus is straightforward: Protect victims, hold offenders accountable, and use the full weight of the law to keep Lyon County safe.

Cindy L. Southard: Are you a democrat or a republican?

Mark Krueger: I’m a Republican and the only Republican appearing on the ballot. I bring over 25 years of experience, including six years as Chief Deputy District Attorney in Lyon County. My priority will always be protecting victims, holding offenders accountable, and keeping Lyon County safe.
