Lyon County NV – April 3, 2026
Message of the Week 04/03/2026
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is a time to come together as a community and reaffirm our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable among us, our children. As your Sheriff, I want to emphasize that keeping children safe is not just the responsibility of law enforcement, it’s a shared duty. Every teacher, neighbor, coach, family member, and friend plays a role in recognizing the signs of abuse and speaking up when something doesn’t seem right.
Child abuse happens behind closed doors, and in view of the public. Its impact reaches far beyond a single incident. It affects a child’s sense of safety, trust, and future. That’s why prevention, awareness, early intervention, and law enforcement play a critical role.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, remains committed to working with our community partners to educate, respond, and support children and families in need. But we cannot do it alone. If you see something, say something. Your voice could make all the difference in a child’s life.
Like every other crime being committed in Lyon County, the Sheriff’s Office has taken an aggressive approach to child abuse/endangerment calls. Deputies of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office handle these calls with a default aggressive mindset, resulting in more arrests of suspected child abusers.
From 2022 – 2025, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has increased our arrests by 49% in reference to child abuse/endangerment. (See attached graph)
The Sex Offender Task Force of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has also taken an aggressive approach when dealing with registered / non-registered sex offenders in Lyon County. Investigation into non-compliance is up 158% (2024-2025), resulting in an increase of arrests by 157% and requested arrest warrants by 180%.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is committed to serving our communities and keeping our communities safe from those who threaten our quality of life.

Respectfully,
Sheriff Brad Pope
