FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Lyon County School District (LCSD) is aware of an incident that occurred today, February 2, 2026, at Silver Stage Middle School involving a confrontation between two parents following a student-led walkout at the conclusion of the school day. School staff immediately tried to de-escalated the situation and contacted law enforcement.
Lyon County Sheriff Office (LCSO) arrived on scene and assisted in handling the situation. No injuries were reported and LCSO is continuing its investigation into the incident.
LCSD understands that students may choose to express their views on local, national, or international issues through demonstrations or walkouts. LCSD does not take a stance on the issues that may prompt these actions.
The district’s primary responsibility remains providing a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for all students and staff. Instructional time is critical to student success, and regular attendance is essential. In accordance with Nevada law, students who choose to participate in a walkout during instructional time may be marked tardy or absent depending on the duration of their absence, and these absences will not be excused.
LCSD appreciates the support of families, staff, and community partners as we continue to prioritize student safety and respectful communication.
