Good afternoon and Happy New Year from Interim City Manager Jerry Bryant!

Please remember to celebrate responsibly and safely.

Yerington Police Department has partnered with other agencies to conduct an ongoing impaired driving campaign. It’s better for everyone, including YOU to plan accordingly.

Like our friends at Lyon County Human Services (https://www.facebook.com/lyoncountyhumanservices), the City of Yerington reminds you to:

✓ Drive slower

✓ Drive sober

✓ Buckle up

The Poles for the new banner system were installed today on Main Street, outside of the “old Post Office.” Once complete this system will be one more aspect to the beautification and promotion of events happening in our wonderful community.

Speaking of downtown, I heard several compliments about the festive look of our town and I’d again like to thank all of those involved for helping make that happen.

Public Works will be on Main Street this Friday taking some of them down and the Yerington Main Street Committee will be on site Saturday morning to complete the cleanup and storage for next year. If you’d like to help out on Saturday be sure to join us at the Fire Department starting at 10:30 a.m.

With all of the wonderful things happening in our community, I’m saddened to report that we experienced a rash of vandalism at Mountain View Park last week. While law enforcement does everything they can to resolve this and Public Works focuses on repairs and replacements, I’d like to ask for everyone’s help in working towards instilling a sense of pride and stewardship in others, to help avoid these situations in the future. We will never stop it completely, I get that, but let’s work together to continue making this a community we are all proud of and minimize this unwanted behavior and unnecessary expense. I’m sure you would all agree, it’s better watching our dollars go to improvements than to repairs.

Airport improvements have been a focus of conversations lately, in the near future you will be hearing more about the five year plan for improvements to this small but critical component of our city, including taxiway improvements and the desire to attract a Fixed-Based Operator (FBO) to support growth.

We are in need of three city residents to help round out two of our community committees.

We currently have 2 vacancies on our Planning Commission and one on our Administrative Committee.

The planning commission reviews plans and zoning for development (amongst other things) within the City.

The administrative committee reviews items and makes recommendations for the City Council to consider, including the fee schedule and internal policies. These are very abbreviated descriptions, both committees act as a review board, gathering input and making recommendations they feel best meet the needs of the City and it’s citizens for the Council to consider for final adoption. If you’re interested in serving on these committees please submit a letter of interest to City Hall by end of business day January 15th.

If you have specific questions about either one, please message me via email at jerryb@yerington.net.

Happy New Year, Yerington! I hope this is our best year yet!
