Yerington NV – December 9, 2025
As a fellow farmer, neighbor, and Yerington native, I feel that I need to speak up about this current situation. We have a farmer, “Mr Peri”, in this situation who was preparing his fields for next year’s planting. In doing so, I’m assuming his employee was using a sulfur based application that a number of people had the unfortunate opportunity to be exposed to. From my experience, these sulfur products are used by many organic farmers to get rid of unwanted parasitic or unwanted creatures and weeds that usually create an unsettling planting bed for the organic vegetables we value eating during the year. These products may produce a strong odor but other than that the lingering effects usually go away. As Dan Monahan posted, The Nevada Department of Agriculture is available to address issues and provide all of us with contact information to gain more clarification. Now I go on with my point – Do you honestly think any farmer or rancher in this valley would want anything like this to happen? Do you honestly feel Facebook is the right place to slander a person’s integrity when they have been ranching in this community since the early 1980s? Do any of you posting on here realize what this organization “Peri and Sons” have given to this community in the form of support? Let’s start by revisiting the last flood and all the work this company provided to save the river from breaching its banks. Let’s add all the money and support to the formation of the Boys and Girls Club, monetary support for Yerington sports programs, Yerington dance programs, Yerington extracurricular programs, donations to various clubs and organizations ( Rotary Club, Lions Club, Mason Valley Chamber), and the use of lands for organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club to host their largest fundraiser. I remember reading last year that they donated a significant amount to Walker River Foundation. In addition, Mr. Peri employs at least 400 individuals in this community. I guess for me, this event was extremely unfortunate and I’m so thankful that everyone involved appears to be recovering. I feel strongly that airing all of this on social media and slandering people is not justified. The people affected I feel extremely sorry for and I pray in the end the memorandum from the Nevada Department of Agriculture provides some education and clarification. I personally know the owners of this organization and I know their hearts and souls are set with some extreme Christian values. Please understand these people are our neighbors and truly did not intend for any of this to happen!!! Everyone deserves a little grace.
