The Yerington Main Street Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Melanie Young-Pinkerton as our new Executive Director effective October 1st, 2025. This new appointment is an important step in the Committee’s commitment to continue our efforts in promoting the beautification and economic development of Yerington’s business districts.
Melanie has expressed her honor and excitement to be part of such a motivated group and looks forward to help take the Yerington Main Street Committee efforts forward. The quality of a community directly influences whether a business chooses to locate there. By investing in Yerington’s vitality, appearance and livability, we are also investing in its economic future. This role allows us to strengthen partnerships, communicate more effectively with organizations like the Yerington Chamber of Commerce, City of Yerington and Yerington community service organizations, and continue moving Yerington in a positive direction. Melanie will be replacing Scott Draper who was appointed to that role at the creation of the YMSC and who will be returning to the Board of Directors.
The Yerington Main Street Committee, with support of the City of Yerington, was formally established as a nonprofit almost two years ago, although we have been hard at work on Main Street for the past three decades. We, along with the City of Yerington, Walker River Basin Communities Foundation, Rotary Club of Yerington, Yerington Lions, Mike & Tana Powell, Arevia Power and many local volunteers have made great strides this last 18 months with many community clean-up efforts, a tow behind sweeper trailer, additional park benches, trash cans and flower pots along Main Street, the refurbishing of our green decorative light posts, light post banner system, holiday decorations, new green decorative stop & street signs, the Yerington Main Street Park and Visitors Information Center, and soon to come across the street banner system located in the middle of town. We have also been instrumental in efforts such as the Yerington Dog Park and the soon to be Yerington Pickleball Courts.

With our sites on many more projects such as a Main Street historical walk that will eventually turn into an entire town path with hopes of incorporating a river walk, a downtown green open plaza area to host events and concerts without having to shut down Main Street, Soon to come annual Harvest Festival, as we are the “Harvest Capitol of the Copper Hills” and many more things that we hope will do nothing but promote Yerington, business and tourism to our great town.

We welcome Melanie as part of our team and look forward to working with her.
