As Fall quickly approaches, the energy on local soccer fields is unmistakable. AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) season is officially in full swing, bringing together children, families, and coaches for weeks filled with competition, teamwork, and personal growth. From under-6 beginners to more advanced youth leagues, the fields are alive with the sounds of cheering, encouragement, and the unmistakable thud of a well-kicked ball.
“15 years ago, I asked a little boy that I’d been working with how his 1st soccer game went. He told me that he didn’t get to play, and that the coach kicked him out. Later I asked his foster mother what had happened. She said that the little boy wouldn’t stop calling the other players a**holes. I knew immediately what had occurred: the little boy was calling the other players by the letters on their uniforms…ayso!” – Leah Wilkinson
