Mason Valley-Based Girl Scouts Visit Historic Buckland Station for a View Into Nevada’s Past

June 22, 2024  Members from Girl Scout Troop #18, based in Mason Valley, travelled with troop leaders & parents to Buckland Station  for an inviting look into local history.

From Nevada State Parks Archives: Buckland Station – Fort Churchill State Historic Park:

Girl Scouts toured the historic boarding house and Buckland home which was built in 1870 by Samuel Buckland who used building materials from nearby & abandoned Fort Churchill. Samuel purchased all the buildings of Fort Churchill at public auction for $750 in 1869.

Lindsey Crowder, troop leader along with Sonora Hall for Girl Scout Troop #18, reported, “We have wonderful parents who volunteer their time to keep us up and running. We currently have a total of 17 girls, from 5 to 14 years of age.”

The  Buckland Station Interpreter/Ranger ushered the Girl Scouts on a comprehensive tour of the 19 room boarding house. Upon conclusion the Interpreter presented each Girl Scout with a Fort Churchill Junior Ranger badge.
