Norma Chidwick was born on November 20, 1935, in Smith Valley, Nevada. She passed away peacefully at her home on May 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was the oldest of three daughters born to Tim and Ella Linscott. She was born on the Smith Gage Ranch in Smith Valley, NV. It was at a Smith Valley High School dance that she met her future husband, Don Chidwick. What started out as her high school sweetheart turned into 42-years of a loving marriage.
In her youth, Norma achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Grand Champion steer at the Nevada State Fair, which was a source of great pride throughout her life. She also played sports and participated in other Smith Valley High School activities.
After marriage, Don and Norma moved to Minden where she worked for the Minden Co-op Creamery for two years. In 1955, they moved to Yerington, where they raised their two young children, Mark and Donna. Norma and Don shared a passion for travel, particularly camping, fishing, and exploring the world together.
Professionally, Norma dedicated herself to the Yerington Intermediate School as the secretary for 28 years, touching the lives of countless students and staff with her warmth and kindness.
Norma will forever be known for her kind nature, sweet disposition, and neighborly ways. She always had a smile on her face and was ready to help those in need. Norma loved her family unconditionally and was a friend to all.
She was an avid bowler, antiquer, gardener, baker, golfer, traveler, scrapbooker, and bottle collector. Norma pursued life with enthusiasm and creativity. She was deeply committed to her community, volunteering her time with the Mason Valley Fire Department, Good Sams, and the Lyon County Museum, where she served as the secretary for many years. Norma was also known for treating her family and friends with an endless supply of her delicious chocolate chip cookies.
Years after Don’s passing, Norma found companionship with Malcolm (Mac) Williams, embarking on new adventures, by golfing, and discovering new restaurants across northern Nevada.
A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, Norma found solace and strength in her faith. She cherished moments spent with family and friends and created lasting memories filled with love.
Norma is survived by her son Mark (Trish) Chidwick, daughter Donna (Jim) Sciarani, sisters Rita (John) Evasovic and Peggy Jones, five grandchildren Jennifer (Ryan) Floyd, Tabatha Chidwick, Cassie (Joey) Erck, Sarah (Alphonse) Polito, and Stephanie (Gerrit) Hillebrand, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
