Good evening Yerington community!

I hope to see all of you out and about tomorrow for our annual Air Fair at the Yerington Airport! We will have static displays set up for everyone to see, $4.99/gallon fuel for aircraft and Rotary Club of Yerington, Nevada will be on site serving their exceptional breakfast! Rotary has pledged the first $1,500 of their funds raised for our local AYSO soccer club as well. The festivities start at 7 a.m. and wrap up at noon so you still have time to enjoy the beautiful 84 degree weather outside!

I’m happy to report that our new AWOS III system, a weather system for aircraft was installed at the airport over the last two weeks. This project was valued at just under $300,000 and was funded by 95% grants and required only a 5% match from our city funds.

Speaking of our airport, I’m happy to report that our airport has also been selected as a stop along the annual 2027 Air Race Classic! We are happy that our small community has been selected on this premier list of stops during the race. We’ll be sure to share more details as the event draws near next summer.

I’d also like to remind everyone of the Health Fair happening tomorrow at the Catholic Center. This event is sponsored by South Lyon Medical Center and I’ll attach a flyer for details.

Then on Sunday this weekend, please take caution in the streets around our schools. Volunteers will be out to repaint the paw prints along the roads, continuing this great tradition that signals the start of Homecoming week at YHS! Again, please drive with caution.

There are some items for parks, housing, administration and more, but again, I’m unable to go into depth prior to the meeting. Please be sure to check out the meeting at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall, or hop on zoom.

Housing has been a hot topic with internal meetings and for good reason. During studies completed for our city last fall, our vacancy rate was an extremely low 1.5%, compared to a state average of 5%. I would feel confident in saying that number has decreased significantly in just the last several months as well. I would like our citizens to know we are in constant discussion with developers regarding projects and are working to balance the best long term interests of our city with immediate needs. Keep an eye on future agendas for more specific details.

I’d like to thank the public for their patience while we made some improvements to the roadways on Pizen Switch Road and South West St. by the DMV. These are fairly busy streets and I know that these projects were inconvenient, but they were long overdue.

We’ve continued to patch and repair where we can and will continue to do so while we pursue grant funds to complete larger scale overhauls in areas with needed improvements.

A presentation regarding the Off-Road Park development on Y-Hill (Farmy’s Off-Road Park) is also on the agenda for Monday. This is a great time to provide a critical reminder that Y-Hill is not a dump or a shooting range. During events we recently hosted in this vicinity, we discovered that many people are utilizing Y-Hill as a dump, or their private shooting range and these are both strictly prohibited.

Sound studies were performed as part of the planning phase for the off-road park development and while the audio level impacts of off-road vehicles was very encouraging (meaning very minimal) the sounds of firearms being discharged in close proximity were very concerning. Again, it is strictly prohibited to discharge firearms on Y-Hill, as supported by Yerington City Code Title 5, Chapter 2 section 7.
