Yerington NV – August 9,2026

Before I leave the office tonight, I need to make an important announcement!

Yerington Police Department is happy to offer FREE Rides in a Police Car when you shoplift from a local store!

These great signs are available down at YPD. If you’re a shop owner and would like to have one in your store window, come on down and visit us at the Yerington NV Police Department and pick one up for free. These are great way to have some fun, but also make a point. Available while supplies last.

The next 2 weeks in Yerington are lining up to be some of the busiest of the year! Tomorrow morning is the Backpack Giveaway at Mason Valley Assembly! This free event is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and what a wonderful program to support our kids before they head back to school. Then on August 15 at the Methodist Church is a FREE Pancake Breakfast (donations welcome). Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.

One of the best events of the year, EVERY YEAR also kicks off next week. The Lyon County Fair Rodeo and Livestock show kicks off next Thursday with family night and runs through Sunday at the Fair Grounds. I’ll attach some flyers with highlights of some of the events. Be sure to bring the family out and enjoy some of the best hometown entertainment you’ll find anywhere! Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who help put this on year after year. These incredible volunteers come together every year to help put this event on for YOU and your families, so please be sure to say thank you when you see them working hard at the Fairgrounds.

Earlier this morning you may have received a text message stating you’ve been opted in to receive text updates from the City of Yerington. This is a new program to help the city disburse critical information in critical situations, such as public emergencies, or updates regarding water/sewer service or road closures. If at any time you do not wish to receive these text message updates you may text “STOP” to opt out. If you did not receive this auto-opt in message but would like to enroll in this service, simply text ‘Yerington’ to the number 91896. Then when it asks you if you agree to the terms and conditions, you must respond with ‘yes’.

We’re accepting applications for a few positions here at the city.

I’d like to point out the position of YPD Officer, Public Works Full Time and Public Works Part time positions that are available.

If you have a great attitude and are looking to start your career in a place with great benefits, now is the time. The spots will remain open until filled, so if you are interested don’t delay. To learn more about these positions or to access the job application visit our job opportunities on our website here: https://www.yerington.net/170/Jobs-Opportunities

Next week our Public Works team will be in the area of the schools, doing our annual prep before our kiddos head back to school.

This is also a great time to say thank you to the Comstock Youth program (part of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon & Storey Counties). This program allows our city to provide additional work experience for several high school kids during the summer. I’ve been very impressed with the kids we had on hand this summer and their work ethic. These extra hands also help out significantly over the summer. This year we had 3 kids all summer to help out with various city functions. What a great way to deliver on hands experiences to our youth while benefiting our community.

This coming Monday is our next City Council meeting. This meeting starts at 10:00 a.m., but the following meeting, August 24th, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to allow for attendance of those who can’t normally attend during business hours. We hope this change in time provides additional opportunity for community members to participate in your local city government.

As you probably know by now, I’m not able to go into detail about agenda items prior to the meeting, but you can always find the full agenda and supporting materials on our website here: https://www.yerington.net/AgendaCenter

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly. jerryb@yerington.net.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to see you at one of our upcoming meetings!

Respectfully,

Jerry Bryant
