This is a story about travel, adventure, and good vibrations…all made possible by a remarkable couple from right here in Yerington. Kevin and Kisha Sarna have a passion for travel and have developed a very popular internet blog that highlights over 350 travel destinations.
At first, you may think that a blog titled, “Inked with Wanderlust” doesn’t make any sense. The wanderlust part is pretty straight forward and if you happen to meet Kevin when he is wearing a short-sleeved shirt, it all makes perfect sense. His arms and impressive biceps are adorned with intricate tattoos.
Like many of us, Kevin and Kisha are California transplants. They moved to Yerington from Vallejo, California in 2008.
Kevin: “I actually visited Yerington a couple years before moving here. Some friends of mine had relocated here and I came out to visit them for a few days. Long story short, I ended up falling in love with the solitude and peacefulness of it all, so I began my plan to move here. In the midst of all that, I met and fell in love with Kisha. Even longer story short, after just a few months of dating, she decided she would move here with me and the rest is history.“
When asked why he started his blog, he stated that, “I wanted to find a way to monetize my passion for photography and travel/hiking. I’m a person who likes to plan and wants to know what to expect (parking situation, fees, any points of interest or noteworthy along a trail, etc.). I grew frustrated with the often vague (or complete lack of) information provided by official sources and other blogs. So, I decided I would start my own and make it as accurate and detailed as possible so my followers can get the info they need.”
Additionally, “There are many folks out there who would like to see the places I’ve seen but cannot, whether that’s medical, financial, or other reasons. By providing accurate information and detailed photos, they’re able to see places they may not otherwise see. I aim to structure each post in a way that’s not only informative, but also makes the reader feel like they went along with me.”
The blog officially launched in 2020 and was a transition from an Instagram page. The site has experienced steady growth and today has over 20,000 followers. Because of the blog’s popularity, there are plans to add a YouTube Channel. With the ability to add narration, music, and ambient sound, the channel will give the viewers a greater appreciation of the locations.
The blog is a real team effort. While Kevin does most of the actual production work, Kisha is the glue that holds it all together. Kevin explains, “She does much of the research, planning and proofing. It is especially comforting to know she has my back when we are in crowded locations where a second set of eyes is needed. Truth be told, there’s no way I could do it without her as she’s always believed in me when much of the time, I didn’t.”
