Community Update from Yerington Interim City Manager Jerry Bryant on October 10, 2025

Good evening Yerington community,

Before I dive into the updates I’d like to say thank you again for making our Air Fair at the Yerington Municipal Airport a HUGE success last weekend. Quite a few planes, a helicopter and some drones. The event isn’t complete without a Rotary Club of Yerington Breakfast while watching K-9 demonstrations from YPD. Such a wonderful community event. Staff is already discussing ways to make next year bigger and better so stay tuned for details next summer.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to sign up for text alerts from the City. Text “Yerington” to 91896 and then reply to the opt in message with “Yes.” This way you can receive text messages alerting you to road closures, water breaks, or other public safety/emergency matters. I assure you I won’t use it to send corny jokes, but the urge to send them is a battle I fight every day.

One item I wanted to discuss today was the direction to City staff to increase enforcement of business license compliance. I am a firm believer of supporting local economies and an even bigger believer in public safety. Having the proper business license helps ensure that appropriate inspections and background checks are in place. For example, a license for door to door solicitation is different from a restaurant. I want businesses to grow and flourish. A pop up business today, could be the brick mortar store of tomorrow. With that said, I also want to ensure that the stranger entering your home is not a threat to public safety.

In regards to pop up businesses, I am working closely with the Chamber of Commerce to support business incubator events. These are the events in which we try to promote shop local campaigns, and encourage pop up businesses to participate and grow their client base. It’s in the interest of the City that businesses grow and we want to support it any way we can. We also want to ensure consumer dollars spent in our town are being spent with businesses that are following their respective regulations.

In order to begin he process of obtaining a City of Yerington business license, come by City Hall at 14 E. Goldfield Ave.

In other news, we have the State Fire Marshal in town tomorrow, teaming up with our very own Mason Valley Fire Department for a Public Safety event on Main Street. This public safety event is a family event, open to the public. Come on by and be prepared to be amazed. I’m told the fire demonstration will be exciting. Roasting marshmallows is not allowed, I’ve already asked.

For this event, Main Street will be closed Saturday, October 11 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. from Bridge St. to Van Ness.

Another road closure is happening Sunday over by the High School. Pearl from Main Street to California, and part of California from Pearl St. to Littell will be closed to continue the tradition of painting Lion paw prints on the streets, leading up to the schools. I’ve attached a flyer with more information. Come on out and support the event Sunday, October 12.

Trunk or Treat is happening at City Hall, Thursday, October 30. Get signed up today at City Hall, or email your registration to deputyclerk@yerington.net. I’m spoken with quite a few people already with crazy ideas for their trunks this year. I’m very excited for this event. I also call dibs on the Skittles.

Trick or Treating in town is expected to happen on Halloween itself, Friday, October 31.

This coming Monday, October 13 is our regular scheduled City Council meeting. 10:00 a.m. at City Hall. Stop in and participate or listen, or join us on zoom. I’ll write up more on this later, but we have two employees being recognized for their years of service. Sergeant Brandon Coombs, who has accumulated 15 years with Yerington Police Department, and Helen Sturtevant who has tallied 25 incredible years with the Police Department. Congratulations to both of you! I’ll prepare a more formal write up after the meeting on Monday.

Another item of note is the possible adoption of our updated Master Plan. This has been in development for sometime and will be considered by the Council. Be sure to visit yerington.net to review the full agenda and zoom link.

Have a wonderful weekend, I hope to see you at some of our wonderful events happening this week. I’ll also attach the YHS Homecoming schedule of events.
