Healthy Communities April Meeting Focuses on Tobacco Use and Community Chest Services : April 10, 2025

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ April 10, 2025 public meeting includes presentations on both tobacco use prevention and the services and programs of Community Chest, Inc. (CCI).

The Thursday breakfast meeting begins at 9 am at the Silver Springs Community Center and includes hot breakfast and coffee. The Community Center is located on the left side of the Senior Center building at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs, NV 89429. Attendees are asked to park on the side of the building or on the street to preserve the parking in front of the building for seniors.

Shaunte Ibarra-Beltrami, Director of Community Services at Community Chest, Inc, will speak about CCI’s many direct services and programs serving Lyon, Storey and beyond.

Alisha Moss, Prevention Coordinator at Healthy Communities, will give an overview of multi-sector tobacco use prevention efforts in our region.

The nonprofit Healthy Communities meets every other month at the Silver Springs Community Center at 9am. Topics for the June and August meetings are as follows:

Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 9am: Guest speakers will give overviews of Nation’s Finest, which serves veterans throughout Northern Nevada, and foster care in rural Nevada.

Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 9am: Topics include Nevada Care Connection and its programs to improve access to services and supports such as Medicare.

Healthy Communities Coalition is comprised of local, state, federal and tribal group partners, community volunteers, and a board of directors and staff all working together on a common mission to strengthen communities in the Lyon and Storey regions by increasing access to 1) health care and prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; 2) food security, nutrition and gardening education and 3) sustainable community-based opportunities that serve the common good and strengthen local assets and self-reliance.
