FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lyon County School District’s Grow Your Own Scholarship Program Supports Future Educators

The Lyon County School District (LCSD) is proud to support aspiring educators through the Grow Your Own Scholarship Program, an initiative designed to assist classified employees and active substitute teachers in their journey to becoming licensed educators.

The Grow Your Own Scholarship Program is designed to assist LCSD classified and substitute teacher employees with tuition assistance while they are obtaining a teaching credential. Recipients awarded this scholarship must be committed to completing their program needed for a teaching license within two (2) years or less and accepting, if offered, employment as a teacher with Lyon County School District.

One of the program’s recent recipients, Zoe Salvo, has been making a meaningful impact as a long-term substitute teacher and paraprofessional. Her dedication to student success has exemplified the qualities LCSD seeks in future teachers—passion, commitment, and the ability to inspire students to reach their full potential.

The Grow Your Own Scholarship Program provides essential financial and professional support to LCSD employees who are currently pursuing or wish to begin their teaching degrees.

Program Benefits Include:

  • Up to $9,700 per year for coursework (for up to two years)

  • Financial assistance for textbooks

  • Reimbursement for initial Praxis test fees

  • Continued health benefits while completing student teaching (when eligible)

  • A $1,000 stipend to support unpaid student teaching

  • Approved unpaid leave from the current position to complete student teaching

In recognition of her hard work and dedication, Zoe Salvo was recently honored on Friday at Dayton Elementary School, where she received a new laptop, backpack, and school supplies to aid her in her studies. She was also presented with a certificate of achievement in front of her colleagues, celebrating her commitment to education.

LCSD is committed to growing its own educators by investing in those who are already making a difference in the district. The Grow Your Own Scholarship Program is an opportunity for passionate individuals to advance their careers while continuing to serve the students of Lyon County.
