Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: Message of the Week on September 20, 2024

Message of the Week 09/20/2024

Last night, Chief Deputy Brantingham and I hosted the Northern Nevada Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) monthly meeting in Fernley, Nevada. The C.O.P.S. Board is traveling and holding their meetings in different areas throughout Northern Nevada monthly, and we were honored to host. Next month, they will be in Elko, hosted by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol. It was a privilege to host the meeting, and I wanted to share this great organization with our community.

Northern Nevada Concerns of Police Survivors is a non-profit organization that provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line-of-duty, as determined by Federal criteria. Northern Nevada C.O.P.S. provides emotional and financial support as well as legal assistance to survivors of fallen officers.

Northern Nevada Concerns of Police Survivors responds after a line-of-duty death to support the surviving family members, co-workers and agency. We offer support as long as needed, to all survivors. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. No matter what, support is just a phone call away.

Northern Nevada Concerns of Police Survivors is a state chapter of the national organization and is dependent on charitable donations and fundraisers. Northern Nevada C.O.P.S. is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible according to current IRS regulations. Northern Nevada C.O.P.S. does not use telemarketers or phone solicitation at any time or in any way! All contributions directly benefit the families of fallen law enforcement officers in Northern Nevada.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Lyon County Human Services are gearing up for our annual Shop with a Sheriff event in Fernley. The Shop with a Sheriff event allows under-privileged kids from Lyon County the opportunity to Christmas shop with a Deputy from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Shop with a Sheriff program runs entirely on donations and through community sponsorship. Last year the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office took over 40 Lyon County Children shopping at Walmart! The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has begun fundraising for this event and genuinely appreciates all the community support we have received over the years.

All donations are deposited into the Sheriff’s Office charity account and are separate from the Sheriff’s Office operating budget. Our donation account is 100% returned to the community we serve!

There are several ways to donate to the program:
