Mason Valley, Nevada
By Brice Boland, Walker Basin Conservancy
The Walker Basin Conservancy hosted four “Explore the Walker Basin” summer environmental education sessions with the Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley. With four different sessions covering Conservation Science, Native Plants and Seed, the Walker Basin Watershed, and Habitat, learning was a blast in a fun setting. The series provided a wonderful opportunity for learning and a whole lot of laughter during the summer months.
Our summer Explore the Walker Basin program with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley focused on getting area youth outside to play in and learn about the amazing Walker Basin! Over 100 youth built bird boxes, studied and potted native plants, created their own watersheds, and participated in plant scavenger hunts. The Conservancy is excited to host this program again next summer while continuing to grow our environmental education program to reach more youth in the Walker Basin during the upcoming school year.
