CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation has reopened Mason Road (State Route 827) in the Mason area as of July 19.
The road had been closed since early June between State Routes 339 and 208, where Mason Road passes over the Walker River, due to a sinkhole and local flood mitigation efforts. The sinkhole was likely created by high Walker River water levels flooding the nearby area.
Interim sinkhole repairs have been made and the road is now completely open. Motorists will be traveling over temporary roadway paving until permanent roadway repairs are made in coming months.
River level monitoring and as-needed flood mitigation efforts continue in the area. More information on Lyon County flooding is available on the 2023 Flood Information page of the Lyon County website http://www.lyon-county.org.
For the latest state highway conditions, visit www.nvroads.com or call 511 before driving.
