YERINGTON, Nev. – Despite the temperature outside, summer really is right around the corner for Lyon and Mineral Counties! With an extra week of break this year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley has a season full of field trips, learning and fun planned for its members.

Families’ first chance to register for the 2023-24 membership year, which begins the first day of summer on June 5 in Lyon County and June 12 in Hawthorne, is at the Club’s summer kickoff events. The Dayton and Silver Springs clubhouses will hold theirs on May 3 at 5 p.m., while Yerington and Hawthorne’s will be on May 4. All summer kickoff events will feature free tie-dye stations for kids and teens, and parents can renew their memberships or sign up new members.

Any memberships done during the summer kickoffs will have the $10 annual membership fee waived and come with a free field trip T-shirt.

“We have a packed summer this year,” Tommy Crowder, director of programming and safety, said. “Weekly field trips, sometimes two, free movies every Tuesday, Healthy Habits, STEM programming, and of course, just a bunch of awesome games and fun. I can’t wait, and I’m sure our members can’t either.”

This summer’s field trips include DEFY Sparks, IMAX movies, Wild Island and much more. Each clubhouse will also head to Yerington to catch a movie at the Yerington Movie House every Tuesday. Finally, new this summer is programming in partnership with Walker Basin Conservancy. Members will dive into the magic of the outdoors, learning about parks, wildlife, native plants and species and more with weekly sessions and four field trips to local state parks and the Conservancy’s greenhouses.

Also new this year is a restructured free structure that will go into effect for the entire organization at the start of summer. Beginning June 5, members can attend the Club for $160 a month during summer and before and after school for $140. After school will run $80 monthly, while just before school will cost $60. Families will more than one member will receive a discount for each additional child.

“We will never turn away a child or family due to an inability to pay,” Kayla Harrison, the Club’s director of membership, said. “Financial assistance will be available to anyone who needs it.”

Paperwork for financial assistance is available at bgcmasonvalley.org via the parent portal and at every clubhouse. Teen members at all locations can continue attending free of charge.
