Wilbur ‘Whoba’ Thom: 1944~2022 Passed Away After a Brief Illness

Wilbur Thom passed away on Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2022 after a short illness at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon.  He was 77.

Wilbur was born on August 13, 1944 the son of Sullivan and Laura Thom in Schurz, Nevada where he lived his entire life.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; a daughter, DeeAnn (Nathan) St. Andrew of Cashton, WI; 2 sons, Dorsey (Laurie) Thom of Yerington, Travis (Wendy) Thom of Schurz; a step-son, Troy (Liz) Meier (Liz) of Laurel, Montana; 2 grandsons, Dorsey Jr. ‘Littleman’ and Hanley both of Yerington; one step granddaughter, Cierra (Brent) Woring of Fallon, NV and a step grandson, Logan (Natalie) Meier of Pinehurst, NC and 4 great grandchildren; his four sisters, Juanita (George) Ponton, Shirley Poncho, Joanne Broncho and Marie (Victor) Williams all of Schurz; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers and his many cowboy friends.

Wilbur’s funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Schurz Tribal Gym, with a viewing at the gym at 10:00 am.  There will be no viewing after the service in the gym.  Burial will be at the Schurz Cemetery, and a lunch will follow at the gym.
