Andrew Askins: Taking the Reigns of Lyon County Community Development Director

Lyon County is pleased to announce that Andrew Haskin has taken the reigns of the Lyon County Community Development Director. Andrew has come to Lyon County with a strong background in economic development. He spent almost 8 years with the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA). He is a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno with a Master of Business Administration Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Marketing. Andrew is no stranger to Lyon County and our Community Development operation. He has worked hand in hand with our operation in his role at NNDA. Andrew and his family will soon be Lyon County residents.

The Community Development Department consists of the Planning Division, Building Division, Code Enforcement, Economic Development Division, Engineering & Surveying, and the Airport. Lyon County has not had a Community Development Director for the past several years due to budget constraints. County Manager Jeff Page requested the Board of Commissioners to budget the position last fall. The County had conducted a number of interviews before offering the position to Haskins. Page explained that the County was looking for someone that had strong leadership skills, understood the variety of community interests in Lyon County, and was not going to apply a cookie-cutter approach to the Department.
