Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley has officially announced Harely Guerrero of Yerington High School as this year’s Jerry Ogolin Memorial Scholarship award winner. Guerrero received the award at YHS’ Senior Awards Night banquet on May 27.
“Harely exhibits many of the same characteristics, including a strong sense of community and high morals, that Mr. Ogolin did,” Nick Beaton, the Club’s director of communications and resource development, said during the ceremony. “We know she’ll do a great job representing Mr. Ogolin’s memory.”
Guerrero will use the $1,000 scholarship when she starts her college career at University of Nevada majoring in Biomedical Engineering. With a heavy involvement in community service, clubs and academic groups, Guerrero will no doubt find plenty of success in her future. As a testament to the type of person she is, she is pursuing her degree because biomedical engineers use technology to solve problems for the world.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Guerrero said.
