Chere’ Lynn Brown ~1948 to 2022~ Her Hallmark was Kindness, Enduring Love for God…Seeing the Good in all People

Chere` was a 6th generation Nevada native who was born in Reno, grew up in Yerington, worked throughout the country and came back to Yerington to retire. Chere` was a pastor, author and businesswoman. She was married briefly to Daryl Brown and they had an amazingly wonderful daughter, Shannon Ivey Brown – who was the center of Chere’s life.  Chere` is survived by her brother Dan Barnett and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Shannon who died of a stroke at age 41, her sister Lexie Lee Baker, her brother David Barnett, her brother Donald Barnett and both of her parents.

Chere` had a rich work history.  Those who grew up in Yerington will remember her waitressing for all four years of high school at John’s Fine Foods. She learned to work hard and treat customers right in those early days of her career; qualities that served her well. Chere` discovered the Lord after finishing high school and received a Degree in Religious Studies from Tomlinson College, Cleveland TN. She loved pastoral work and preached in both Vermont and California for years. Her daughter Shannon had severe physical limitations due to a series of strokes, so Chere` wanted a job that allowed her to work from home and always be close to Shannon. This led to a long career in multi-family property management which she attacked with the same energy as she did pastoring – she was always looking for ways to help people.  She worked for the Oakland Housing Authority, for several large apartment corporations and then joined the Primavera Apartment Company, owned by her brother, Dan. She worked for Primavera Apartments in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Fort Worth TX for the last 15 years of her career. Dan said, “I remember asking Chere` about a tenant that had not paid her rent for several months.  Chere explained to me that she (Rosey) was a very good person and was good for the rent eventually. I am not sure Rosey ever paid anything close to full rent. Chere would say, ‘It is good karma Dan – don’t worry about it.’”

Chere retired in 2016 and moved back to Yerington – her hometown. Being tireless even in retirement she started writing about the town of Yerington with her popular “Yerington Monday” blog. She took up genealogy with a passion and researched the history of our family – producing booklets tracking the history of each part of the family.

Chere’s hallmark was kindness. She had an enduring love of God, a welcoming spirit and saw the good in all people. She would help anyone in need. She cared deeply for her friends and her family. Chere loved to travel and stayed connected with her family and friends all over the country. She truly was a very special person and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be hosted at the Catholic Center, 311 Virginia Street (behind the church) in Yerington NV at 2pm on Saturday July 16, 2022.  Donations can be made in her honor to the American Stroke Association (www.stroke.com). A series of strokes debilitated and ended Shannon’s life and a stroke afflicted Chere as well over the last several years. Chere’s greatest joy today is being together again with Shannon and with her Savior in heaven.
