Yerington NV – October 17, 2026
Good afternoon Yerington community!
I’d like to start this update by saying how proud I am of our Yerington NV Police Department and the active role they have taken in improving our community safety standards. This team has been more active than ever, especially with regards to the Joining Forces campaigns and related grant opportunities.

Currently, the Yerington Police Department is participating in the Joining Forces statewide Pedestrian Safety campaign, taking place from October 10 – 31, 2026.
The campaign focuses on increasing public awareness, encouraging responsible driving habits, and strengthening pedestrian safety through education and enhanced law enforcement efforts.
Throughout the campaign, officers will emphasize the importance of obeying speed limits, eliminating distractions while driving, yielding to pedestrians, and exercising additional caution near schools, neighborhoods, and playgrounds. Pedestrians are also encouraged to use designated crosswalks, wear visible clothing during low-light conditions, and remain alert when walking near roadways.
While on the subject of Law Enforcement, let me also remind you of the Beef and Brews event tomorrow night, the annual fundraiser for our local First Responders Benefit. If you’re not familiar, this local nonprofit raises funds then gives those funds back to our local first responders to assist our agencies with supplies and trainings to enhance public safety. It’s an amazing cause and in the few short years this group of volunteers has done this, they have had a huge impact on all of Mason Valley. Kudos to our First Responders Benefit group. I hope to see the community out tomorrow to support their Beef and Brews event at the fairgrounds. I’ll attach a flyer for more information.

Another item of public safety is the increase we are seeing with e-scooters and e-bikes in town, especially with our local youth. These can be great devices for youth to utilize, and they can be a lot of fun! I’d like to remind all of the parents out there that all devices utilizing our roadways, are subject to all of the rules of the road, just as if they were operating a vehicle.. This is supported by NRS 484B.763 which states: Every person riding a bicycle, an electric bicycle or an electric scooter upon a roadway has all of the rights and is subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle.
This means it’s a two way street – as a driver, you must afford them the same rights as another vehicle, and as the operator of their scooter or bike, etc, they must abide by all of the rules of the road.
I don’t expect many of our youth to read this article. I think most kids find me and my amazing sweater vest collection pretty boring, so parents, I’m talking to you. Please help me get this through to our youth. They have a responsibility in their own safety, and the safety of others on the road.
This is a nice Segway (pardon the pun) to report on some roads.
Today we conquered the corner of Kay Way and Oregon Street (southern corner, closer to Bridge St.). While the bird bath that developed in the road was a nice attraction for local bird watching clubs, it impaired the purpose of a street acting as a…street.

This corner had almost been completely eroded and our Public Works team did a great job tackling this project. We will be back out early next week in order to clean it up a little more after it has settled over the weekend, but this is a much needed repair. If you see our Public Works crew working their tails off out there, be sure to say hello. I am confident when I say that our staff truly care about the community they live in.
We have a few more severe road repairs we are seeking to complete in the coming weeks, but if you want to be sure a needed repair is on our radar, feel free to send me areas in need to my email at jerryb@yerington.net.
This repair along Kay Way and Oregon St. comes just in time for improved surfaces before Trick-Or-Treating. If you’ve lived in Yerington during the month of October, you know that Oregon St. gets a little busy during Trick-Or-Treating.
The community Trunk-Or-Treat event will be Wednesday, October 28, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The City of Yerington and Boys & Girls Club have combined our two trunk-or-treats into one larger event taking place on Main Street right outside of the Club that day. To sign your vehicle or display up, stop by city hall. We hope that this event continues to grow and grow. I’m also told that the YHS kids moved their trunk-or-treat to the same night to make it one amazing night of fun.
The actual Trick-Or-Treating will take place on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, 2026 and is recommended for the hours of 5pm – 9pm. This recommendation comes from our Yerington Police Department and their planned coverage of local events.
The last item I want to touch on tonight is a huge thank you to our Yerington Chamber of Commerce. They’ve been extremely active, more than I’ve ever seen. In fact, today I received a message from a neighboring community asking what they can do and who can they talk to, to achieve the success our local Chamber has achieved. This is a huge compliment to all of these Chamber board members who have been working tirelessly to support our community through events and economic growth. Did I mention they are volunteers? I’d also like to say thank you to our local Chamber for putting on a wonder Candidates Meet & Greet last night, right here at City Hall.

If you haven’t been involved with our Chamber recently, I encourage you to check them out and all of the positive community programs they are coordinating.
Our next City Council meeting is Monday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. and our next Planning Commission Meeting is Wednesday, October 28, at 3:00 p.m. Agendas will be out next week for both.
With that, I’m calling it a night. Have a wonderful weekend. As always, if you ever want to reach me directly, feel free to email questions or concerns to me at jerryb@yerington.net.

Respectfully,
Jerry Bryant
