Yerington NV – May 7, 2026

Students from across the community gathered at Mason Valley FFA’s annual Ag Day & Petting Zoo on May 6, 2026, at Yerington High School, where agriculture education came to life through hands-on activities, live animal exhibits, and interactive demonstrations.

The event welcomed all students from Yerington Elementary School, along with many high school students, giving youth throughout the community the opportunity to explore the many aspects of agriculture in a fun and engaging environment.

Students participated in a variety of educational activities throughout the day. Representatives from the Nevada Department of Wildlife guided students in creating fish prints and gave them the chance to milk “Moolisa,” a life-sized dairy cow simulator. The Walker Basin Conservancy helped students learn about wildlife by teaching them how to make loon calls, while numerous exhibits showcased agriculture, conservation, livestock care, and natural resources.

A popular part of the event was the petting zoo area, where students interacted with a variety of animals brought by local students and community supporters. The exhibits provided many children with a rare opportunity to experience agriculture and animal care up close.

Event organizers expressed appreciation for the many organizations and individuals who helped make the annual tradition possible. Special thanks were extended to the Walker Basin Conservancy, Pape’ Equipment, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Nevada Department of Agriculture, Desert Hills Dairy of Mason Valley, and the students who shared their animals and time to support the event.

According to educator and FFA advisor Jenifer Sexson, the annual Ag Day continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn about the importance of agriculture and natural resources within the community.
