Letter to the Editor: Nordyke Flour Mill

Mason Valley NV – April 14, 2026

From Neta Forbush Highum of Parker, South Dakota

Neta writes:

I found the article on the Nordyke Flour Mill to be of great interest as my roots run deep in Mason Valley.

However, Georgiene Smith’s information regarding Alvin Harry Forbush, isn’t correct.

Alvin Harry Forbush would be Georgiene Smith’s grandfather, not her Uncle.

Alvin Harry (born 1866-died 1943) had 2 sons, George Elmer (born 1903) and Harry Alvin Forbush, who would be Georgiene Smith’s uncle.

Alvin Harry and his wife owned/farmed land a bit to the east of Nordyke and raised a family consisting of 5 daughters and 2 sons.

My grandfather was Harry Alvin Forbush of Fallon, NV. He was (born 1905) therefore, he was not old enough to be in the featured photo.

Harry Alvin Forbush settled near Fallon in 1945.

Headstones in the Valley View Cemetery at Yerington will verify dates for Alvin Harry, Harry Alvin & George “Elmer”.

Thank you for your letter, Neta! – Pizen Switch Times
