Yerington NV – March 27, 2026

Happy Friday Yerington,

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for me, so I apologize that I haven’t posted as many updates recently. There has been plenty of activity keeping me busy.

You may have noticed VORRA in town last weekend and what a turnout it was! Starting with their kickoff on Friday night and the parade it was a weekend full of activity. Thank you to Omar Lopez for the wonderful photo of the parade in action.

Coming up in April we have a ton of events. Again, I encourage you to keep an eye on the Community Calendar, hosted by your Yerington Chamber of Commerce.

A few upcoming events I’d like to highlight are the upcoming paint class on April 18. This is to raise funds for the Mason Valley Fireworks Committee, who put on a wonderful fireworks display for us on July 4. The fireworks are 100% dependent on these types of fundraising efforts, so come out and have fun and support a great cause.

You’ll also notice a lot of activity at our ball fields right now. Walker River Little League is back in action and has 44 total teams for the 2026 season. 490 kids from Smith, Schurz and Yerington are currently registered with this program. I was out at the ball fields last weekend with several other volunteers and and I’d like to thank everyone who showed up to put in some elbow grease and make the fields look sharp and ready for the season. Without volunteers, these programs would surely struggle. So THANK YOU!

Also on April 18, there is a craft fair, a pickleball tournament, and I’m sure there’s more that I’m forgetting right now. Yerington is the place to be in April!!!!

Regarding some city business – I’ll start again by addressing the sewer pond odor issues. More equipment upgrades are scheduled to happen at our sewer ponds over the next week. We are hopeful that these upgrades minimize the odor that has been, for lack of a better word, overwhelming at times. I’d like the public to know that minimizing this stench is a top priority. I say minimize because we’ll never get rid of it completely. It’s a sewer pond, and sewer water stinks. However, we can make some changes and upgrades to improve it and we are determined to do so. I wish I could stand here and say that it was a quicker process. After the upgrades are made next week, I hope we have an improved situation.

I’d also like to point out that your Yerington NV Police Department has been making extra patrol in the areas of Quail Run and Arrow Leaf, as well as other areas and the feedback I’ve heard thus far has been very positive. Our goal is first and foremost to deter something bad from happening by having a presence. Serving citations or police action after the fact is always the second choice to deterrence through presence. We are fortunate to have some wonderful people serving our community in our P.D.

I mentioned briefly in the past that I am working with some organizations regarding educational opportunities in Yerington. I’m happy to provide more details now. I’ve been working with Lyon County School District and Western Nevada College to find ways to offer courses that many of our students or young adult population can take to prepare them for jobs in our valley. Some of the programs that seem to be catching momentum are courses for CDL and Diesel Mechanics. I’ve also been partnering with industry in our area to gain insight to the skills they require for employment, whether a mine, agriculture, construction or other.

If there are skilled jobs that will be in demand in Yerington, my goal is that we have a trained workforce ready to take those jobs first. WNC and LCSD have both been incredible to work with through this project. WNC is in the process now of seeking funding to offer some programs in our area and I’m continuing my efforts to facilitate discussions between industry and education. We can’t count our chickens before they hatch, so we must remain patient while these discussions develop into reality, but we will remain vigilant in our efforts to bring these opportunities to our community for the long term economic health of our population. The courses I mention above are not the only courses being discussed, but they are gaining a lot of traction based on demand and support.

With that, I need to get out of the office and remind my family what I look like.

As always, if you have a specific question or concern, feel free to reach out to me directly. jerryb@yerington.net

Respectfully,

Jerry Bryant
