Obituary for Roger Lee Banta: October 17, 1934 to February 1, 2026

Roger Lee Banta, born October 17, 1934, in Fresno, California passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at the age of 91. He was comforted in his final moments by his devoted companion and best friend, Mary Lou Davis.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Bertha Banta; his sisters, Florinda, Ina, Betty, and Pat; and his brothers, Lester and Willard. He is survived by his brother, George Banta and sister-in-law Connie, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.

Roger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman Second Class in communications from December 1, 1956, to October 18, 1961. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to public service as a firefighter with the Los Angeles Fire Department from 1966 to 1983, serving his community with courage and commitment.

He attended Bishop Elementary and Bishop High School and continued his education at Fresno State, Pasadena City College, Mt. San Antonio College, and Chaffey College, earning two Associate’s degrees.

Roger had a deep love for the outdoors and adventure. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and flying airplanes. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country and community, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Harvest Baptist Church, 328 N. West Street, Yerington. A luncheon will follow the ceremony.

Roger’s legacy of service, integrity, and love of family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
